Annual Capitol Hill Luncheon

The Center for Excellence in Education’s Capitol Hill Luncheon, an annual event, celebrates and supports CEE’s acclaimed educational programs for young scholars interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

This year’s event will be held March 24, 2010, on Capitol Hill. The Center’s Honorary Board Members, Senator Joseph Lieberman, Senator Lindsey Graham, Congresswoman Jane Harman and Congressman Eric Cantor, are scheduled to speak. Lab Skill Symposium

The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) will hold its first-ever National Lab Skills Symposium April 8-9, 2010 in Washington, DC. The Symposium will address the educational crisis of the lack of laboratory experiences for this nation’s secondary school students. It is critical that the U.S. addresses the challenges of instruction and learning in our nation’s science and engineering labs to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science and technology. Fall 2009 CEE Recruitment Reception

The Center for Excellence in Education hosted its third annual Recruitment Reception for alumni of the Research Science Institute and USA Biology Olympiad in Cambridge, MA. CEE’s program alumni met with representatives from six companies who financially contribute to the Center to discuss internship and full time employment opportunities.

CEE and Booz Allen Hamilton Host Webcast, “From Education to Enterprise: Science and Technology in the Next Generation”

Joann DiGennaro, President of CEE, moderated the panel about U.S. leadership in science and technology and what the scientific and technological landscape will be like in years to come.

This nation’s economic development, national security, and quality of life are dependent on its educational pipeline of excellence in science, technology, engineering, and math. The distinguished members of this panel discussed the rapid pace of scientific and technological advances and answered questions concerning global issues that impact science and technology collaborations.

Distinguished panelists were:

  • Dr. George Atkinson, Director, Institute on Science for Global Policy and former Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice

CEE Hosts Private Screening of Fly Me to the Moon

Academically achieving high school students and teachers from DC Public Schools joined friends of CEE to enjoy an exciting private screening of Fly Me to the Moon, the first ever animated 3D movie. The event was to encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Mr. Jeffrey Marino, Manager of the Systems Resource Center for Booz Allen Hamilton, captivated the audience with his dynamic description of the science and technology necessary to create a 3D movie.

Mr. Ronald E. Hohauser, Chief Financial Officer of Summit Entertainment and RSI ‘85 alumnus, graciously provided CEE the opportunity to show the animated movie.

Center for Excellence in Education 2008 Annual Capitol Hill Luncheon

The Russell Senate Caucus Room was the setting for the Center for Excellence in Education’s 2008 annual Capitol Hill Luncheon. The illustrious panel discussion, moderated by Joann DiGennaro, President of CEE, focused on the importance of advancing engineering in the United States to assure innovation and competitiveness.

The panel members:

  • Mr. Wes Bush, President and COO of Northrop Grumman Corporation
  • Dr. Leah H. Jamieson, John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering and Ransburg Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University
  • Lieutenant General James A. Abrahamson USAF (Ret.), former Director of the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization, current Chairman & CEO of several corporations, and Chairman of the Exploration Committee of the NASA Advisory Council.
