The idea of creating an organization which would foster this nation’s brightest students began in 1983 with the founding of the Center for Excellence in Education by the late Admiral H.G. Rickover, the father of the nuclear navy and civilian uses of nuclear power, and Joann DiGennaro, CEE’s President. CEE's mission has remained tightly focused for 25 years -- to nurture young scholars to careers of excellence and leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and to encourage collaboration among leaders in the global community.

For a quarter century, CEE has championed efforts for this nation’s most academically talented high school and university students. CEE provides cost-free programming to all students competitively selected to attend through partnerships with educational institutions, private foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individuals who share a commitment to educational excellence. Proudly, CEE is the only remaining U.S. nonprofit organization to offer its unique programming from attendance at its programs, throughout undergraduate and graduate studies, and beyond.
