CEE Hosts Webinar on Taking a Drug from Idea to Market

McLean, VA (October 23, 2020) – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) hosts a one-hour virtual panel discussion on Thursday, November 5 from 1-2 p.m. ET titled “Taking a Drug from Idea to Market.” The distinguished panelists are accomplished scientists.

“The Center is thrilled to host outstanding industry scientists for this informative virtual panel discussion,” said CEE’s President Joann P. DiGennaro.

    Dr. Michelle McMurry-Heath, MD/PhD, President & CEO, Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) will present the keynote address.A medical doctor and molecular immunologist by training, Dr. McMurry-Heath received her MD/PhD from Duke’s Medical Scientist Training Program, becoming the first African-American to graduate from the prestigious program. She spent 12 years working at the research bench before taking policy and leadership roles in government and industry. She received a BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Harvard University.

    Panelists

    Laura Bloss, PhD, is Executive Director, Global Regulatory Affairs, Amgen Inc. She is the Global Regulatory Therapeutic Area Head at Amgen for the inflammation, metabolic, and endocrine product portfolio and the department head for the Global Regulatory Writing and Clinical Trial Disclosure groups. Laura received her doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Virginia.

    Moupali Das, M.D., M.P.H, is an Executive Director in the Virology Therapeutic Area at Gilead Sciences where she has worked on HIV treatment, prevention, and cure. She is a board certified Infectious Disease physician and HIV specialist with a background in HIV clinical, behavioral, and epidemiologic research. After completing her undergraduate degree in Biochemical Sciences at Harvard College, she completed medical school at Columbia University and New York Presbyterian Hospital. She also attended the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for fellowship training in Infectious Disease and the University of California, Berkeley for her MPH in Epidemiology.

    Lisa Purcell, PhD, is a Clinical Scientist in Immunology and Inflammation at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. She received her PhD from McGill University and completed Postdoctoral Training at Columbia University. Dr. Purcell’s work focuses on the clinical development of therapies within the immunology and infectious disease therapeutic areas, including those for COVID-19. She received a Master of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science, Honors Biology from the University of Prince Edward Island. 

    Victor Li, PhD, Cofounder and CEO at StemCellerant, LLC (USABO ’03) is a developmental and cell biologist.  His research interests include differentiation, stem cells, the cell cycle, and systems biology. As a student and postdoc in Marc Kirschner's lab, Victor discovered and developed the accelerated differentiation technology that is used by StemCellerant. He holds a PhD in Biological and Biomedical Sciences from Harvard Medical School. He received a B.S. degree with honors in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biological Sciences from Stanford University.
