CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION’S RSI ALUMNUS TAKES FIRST PLACE IN INTEL COMPETITION
Four RSI Alumni Place in Top 10 at Prestigious Intel Science Talent Search


McLean, Virginia – March 13, 2009 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces that 2008 Research Science Institute (RSI) Alumnus, Eric Kerner Larson of South Eugene High School in Eugene, OR was awarded the $100,000 first place scholarship in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search. Eric was selected for his innovative research in mathematics concerning the classification of integral fusion categories.

Mr. Larson began his research at RSI under the guidance of Professor Pavel Etingof and David Jordan of the MIT Mathematics Department. RSI helps nurture young scholars to careers of excellence and leadership in science, technology, engineering, and math.

In addition to Eric Larson’s first place finish, RSI Alumni Philip Vidal Streich, a home-schooled student of Platteville, WI, Noah Maxwell Arbesfeld of Lexington High School in Lexington, MA, and Nilesh Tripuraneni of Clovis West High School in Fresno, CA took third, sixth, and ninth places respectively.

Through CEE’s corporate donor sponsorship program, Eric Kerner Larson is a named Symantec Scholar, Noah Maxwell Arbesfeld is an Akamai Technologies Scholar and Nilesh Tripuraneni is a Northrop Grumman Scholar.

“This is a terrific accomplishment for CEE and its Research Science Institute alumni,” said Joann DiGennaro, CEE President. “I am very proud of these fine young scholars who represent the future of U.S. innovation and competitiveness.”

The Intel Science Talent Search brings together the highest achieving U.S. high school students in science and technology. To date, RSI alumni have included 412 Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalists, 118 Finalists, and 8 first-place winners.
