Event Highlights the Success of CEE’s Educational Programs

March 23, 2011 - (McLean, VA) - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), with sponsorship from SAIC, will host its Annual Congressional Luncheon on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 beginning at 11:30 a.m. and concluding at 2:00 p.m. The event will be held in the Hart Senate Office Building, Room 902, Washington DC.

Additional Members of Congress to make comments at the event include:
Congressmen Bucshon (IN), Dold (IL), Hultgren (IL), Brooks (AL), Scott (SC), Van Hollen (MD) and Congresswoman DeLauro (CT).

The luncheon will celebrate the success of the Center’s Research Science Institute (RSI) offered in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the United States Biology Olympiad (USABO), collaboratively sponsored with Purdue University. CEE announces it will launch the National Lab Skills Initiative in Virginia in May 2011.

“CEE is at the forefront of identifying and mentoring high school and university scholars through its programs offered free of cost to those competitively selected to attend. This nation must encourage the future innovators and leaders of the U.S. in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Joann P. DiGennaro, President of CEE.

The Research Science Institute is a six week summer enrichment program emphasizing advanced theory and research in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The USABO focuses on stimulating young scholars’ intellectual curiosity and developing their critical thinking skills in biological reasoning.

CEE’s National Lab Skills Initiative (NLSI) will provide a Clearinghouse of content rich programming to rural and underserved teachers, will host Share-A-Thons to work with teachers to share and develop cost-effective lab activities that are replicable, scalable, and may involve public/private partnerships, and will publish cost-effective lab activities developed by teachers for teachers in a particular state.
