State Council on Higher Education for Virginia Appoints Joann DiGennaro

McLean, Va. – July 22, 2010 - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces its President and Co-Founder, Joann DiGennaro, has been appointed to the State Council on Higher Education (SCHEV) by Governor Robert F. McDonnell. She will serve a four year term of public service for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“Over the last 27 years, my goal has been to raise the gold standard in education through my commitment to the Center for Excellence in Education. I am humbled to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia through my appointment to the State Council on Higher Education,” said Joann DiGennaro, President of CEE.

As a member of SCHEV, DiGennaro will make recommendations on higher education public policy to the Governor and General Assembly with regard to capital and operating budget planning, enrollment projections, institutional technology needs, and student financial aid.

DiGennaro received her BS Degree from Purdue University and her MS from the University of Maryland. She read the law at Oxford University and received her Juris Doctorate Degree from George Mason University. She is the author of Scholarships and Fellowships for Math and Science Students, and Science Literacy: Essential for Decision Making.

President George W. Bush appointed Ms. DiGennaro to the U.S. Army War College Board of Trustees where she served as Chairperson of that Board. Ms. DiGennaro also served on the Advisory Council (the Board) of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). She received the Public Service Medal in May 2008 for her contribution to NASA’s mission.

She is currently on the Board of Governors of the Coordinating Council for International Universities, on the Board of Trustees of Shimer College, and has held a Research Affiliate at Harvard University. She also serves on the U.S. National Defense College and the Dean’s Advisory Board of the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University.
