Annual Capitol Hill Luncheon
The Center for Excellence in Education’s exciting Annual Capitol Hill Luncheon sponsored by SAIC was held on March 30, 2011 for approximately 125 supporters and friends of the Center. The annual luncheon celebrated CEE’s premier Research Science Institute (RSI) and USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) programs that assist some of the world’s greatest young minds to pursue careers in science, technology, education and mathematics (STEM). CEE launched the National Lab Skills Initiative (NLSI) which will be rolled out in Virginia and Indiana before inaugurating it nationwide. The mission of the National Lab Skills Initiative is to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Speakers at the luncheon included CEE Honorary Board Members Senators Joseph Lieberman (CT) and Lindsey Graham (SC), along with Mark Begich (AK). Remarks were made by Congressman Robert Dold (IL) and Congressman Randall Hultgren (IL).
RSI Alumni Matthew Kilgore (2010) and Dr. Shamik Das (1994) spoke of the uniqueness of the Research Science Institute, laboratory research, lasting friendships with fellow classmates, fond memories, accomplishments, and future goals.
