10 RESEARCH SCIENCE INSTITUTE ALUNMI NAMED FINALISTS IN THE INTEL SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH 2009

CEE’s RSI Alumni Represent 25% of Intel Science Talent Search Finalists

McLean, Virginia – January 29, 2009 The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announced that 10 students of its Research Science Institute (RSI) class of 2008 are among the 40 finalists in the highly esteemed Intel Science Talent Search. The RSI alumni represent this nation’s highest achieving scholars in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

CEE’s Research Science Institute Alumni named as Intel finalists are:

  • Nilesh Tripuraneni, Clovis West High School, Fresno, CA
  • Nitish Lakhanpal, University High School, Irvine, CA
  • Maxim Rabinovich, Shorecrest Preparatory School, Wimauma, FL
  • Noah Maxwell Arbesfeld, Lexington High School, Lexington, MA
  • Michael Sheng Cherkassky, Edina High School, Edina, MN
  • Adam Benjamin Sealfon, Stuyvesant High School, Brooklyn, NY
  • Eric Kerner Larson, South Eugene High School, Eugene, OR

“The Center is very proud of the fine RSI scholars selected as finalists in this prestigious competition,” said Joann P. DiGennaro, President of the Center for Excellence in Education. “They represent this nation’s probable future leaders in science and technology.”

Awards of scholarships by the Intel Science Talent Search are made with the top prize of $100,000. CEE has had more students chosen as Intel honorees and winners than any other U.S. educational organization. To date, CEE’s alumni have included seven first-place winners, 119 finalists and 412 semifinalists.

CEE’s Research Science Institute is offered annually in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). RSI is a six week summer enrichment program that emphasizes advanced theory and research in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Approximately 80 high school scholars from the U.S. and abroad are selected to participate in this program which remains cost free to all competitively selected students from throughout the U.S.
